Having my friend Lacey visiting got me thinking and talking about the reasons that I stay at home... why we have gone out of our way to make sure that I can have the priviledge of staying home. Lacey, knew me as a single, successful career lady. I owned my own home, traveled for work and seemed to "have it all."
But, I certainly wouldn't trade being on-call 24-7, cooking meals, doing laundry, cleaning up, going for walks in the middle of the day, eating 3 meals a day with my husband for a big pay check.
Here's why I stay at home:
1. I like being able to create a beautiful place for Kevin to come home to (Okay, I like having a nice home too - but I honestly feel as if I'm working to build up our marriage, even when he is away)
2. I want to get to know Reagan really really well
3. I want to remember Reagan at each stage vividly and carefully
4. I've never found another job as satisfying as caring for my family
5. It costs too much for me to work: costs money, time, energy
6. I don't like to be rushed
7. I know that I only get one chance to raise her and I want to savor every moment I can
8. I'd rather see Reagan everyday all day and be able to focus on my family than have a nicer car, go on more vacations or acquire more stuff
9. I feel that the time I put in and my constant decision to think of my family will pay off in 30 years... my marriage will be stronger, our family will be more whole and our children will understand what at "home" truly is
10. I'm made for this.
Note: this list is not intended to be a Debby Downer for working moms. I know that not everyone can nor wants to be a free agent. It's simply my "Why".
See, she's so sad just at the thought of anything different ;-)
I never really saw myself as a stay-at-home mom, but now having Andrew I am all for it! I am a part-timer for now and loving it. It works out so well, but there are lots of days that I think how menial my "regular job" is and wonder what it would be like to go completely full-time mama. Work just never compares to the work you do at home! And all of your reasons are perfect.
