You may (or may not) have noticed the new addition to the right side of this page---------->
I have added a list of children's books that I love. Reading is a big part of life in the Cherrick household. I read nonfiction and fiction alike. But, as of late, I have found myself enjoying and basking in the genre of Children's Literature. I enjoy discovering these magical worlds with Reagan and hope that she will become entranced by the power of the written word at a younger age than I did.
For instance, I discovered how marvelous it is to have someone like Anne of Green Gables around to make life "more interesting." She talks a mile a minute and sucks the marrow out of the simplest pleasures in life. I've enjoyed far off places and escaped reality through the Songs of the Lioness and fairy tales retold by Gail Carson Levine. I gained a deeper understanding of the Bible through the Chronicles of Narnia. Each book has its own magic. And, I just want to share those tales in case you also wanted to escape.
Here's good perspective on just how big our little lady has gotten since we first met her back in August!
(On the Left, she's 10 days old. On the Right, she's FIVE months old!)
So, they aren't the best pictures, but you get the point!
I love the book suggestions! I'll be asking for your help and advice next year, for sure!

I request a blog entry on babies and television/movie watching! I am looking for some resources on this! Any ideas?

Hi Tori,
We haven't done a lot of research on television and babies, but I think I've seen some research that shows tv generates passivity in children.
Our experience has been that Reagan loves television. We will set her down on her back on the floor facing away from the tv, and she will roll and twist to watch whatever we are watching. We watch tv during the football half of the year (and movies the rest of the year) so we are coming up on our 'dark period'. We'd prefer Reagan work with blocks or some interactive toys rather than watch tv, but right now all she can do is sit in this little plaything a friend gave us and manipulate the things around her as she can't sit up by herself or crawl yet.
As a general principle, we'd prefer Reagan watch less tv rather than more tv, but of course, that means the same for us!
Joy is working on more research for you, thanks for reading the blog!

Love the books, of course! I started tutoring a third grader friend of mine this week and am now re-enjoying children's books with her...such fond memories of sharing these with Kevin and Kyle and my classes over the years. Yes, many studies show TV has added to the obesity and anti-socialistic behavior of children...Like with all things...use care and common sense. Parents & care-givers need to be aware of content, and be selective, and limit time on TV and videos and games and computers and phones...lots of paying attention to the details. It's worth the effort and the rule or policy-setting. Hugs to Our Sweet GrandBaby! We Miss You! The GrandCherricks
